Garlic & Citrus

Remember that pre-planning I wrote about? It’s paying off. Earlier this week I roasted five heads of garlic, which made for some amazing smells here in the house. All of that sweet, tasty, roast garlic went into a big tub of roast garlic hummus, made with the huge can of chick peas we got a […]

Lessons Learned at Work

I often work from home, (yes, I know that I’m pretty lucky to do that), but sometimes I go out the office to work, and yesterday was one of those days. Actually, yesterday was the first day that I had to actually go in to the office since I started eating like food matters. Luckily, […]

Thai Beef Salad

After a day of leftovers yesterday, (I had chili for dinner), we were back trying one of Mark’s recipes today: Thai Beef Salad, (page 188), and wow, it’s good. The salad dressing is amazing. We didn’t have any red onion, like we’re supposed to put in the salad, so we minced just a bit of […]

Breakfast

So far I’ve mostly written about dinners, so I’m going to mention my breakfast today. First, it was good. It was oatmeal. I filled my oatmeal with dried blueberries, dried currants, and walnuts before I cooked it, then I cooked it in the microwave, then added a banana and some soy milk. I really enjoyed […]

Chili

Today we had Mark’s Bean and Vegetable Chili, (page 260). While I have had vegetarian chili before, today was the first day that we, (well, Joanie), actually made vegetarian chili. We didn’t have actual chilis to put in, so we used chili powder, and it came out pretty well. As a bonus, we now know […]

Our First Dinner

I haven’t started reading the book yet, but we’re already trying to eat less meat and more veggies. Tonight, Joanie cooked the Chicken Not Pie recipe from the book, (page 266 if you want to see the recipe super-fast). As you can imagine, it’s kind of like Chicken Pot Pie, which I love, but not. […]

  • What is Choices That Matter?

I'm a guy named John, and I do most of the writing around here. I went from a really active lifestyle to a really inactive lifestyle very quickly and my body is noticing. On top of that I'm worried about what's happening to our planet, so, I'm trying to do something about it.

For Christmas I received the book Food Matters, which I found very interesting and inspired me to start changing. Check out my first post for the beginning of the story.
