Packaging Gaolore

A photo of everything that we sent to be recycled in two weeks.

Two Weeks of Recycling

I had to take out the recycling this morning, which reminded me that I wanted to write about packaging. We had forgotten to take out the recycling for a two weeks, so this photo is everything that we recycle in two weeks.

One of the thinks that Colin wrote about in his book No Impact Man is trying to live without creating any garbage. It’s something that really hit home with us. Almost everything that is sold comes in packaging that then has to be trashed or recycled.

We are already starting to eat more local food, and as spring progresses into summer we will eat even more locally, but we don’t have to eat locally to reduce the amount of packaging that our food comes in. By doing things like not putting fruit & vegetables into the plastic bags that are throughout the produce section, (that’s what the skins are for), buying less convenience food, or none at all, and generally eating like food matters, we can reduce the amount of packaging that our food comes in, at least to some extent.

  • What is Choices That Matter?

I'm a guy named John, and I do most of the writing around here. I went from a really active lifestyle to a really inactive lifestyle very quickly and my body is noticing. On top of that I'm worried about what's happening to our planet, so, I'm trying to do something about it.

For Christmas I received the book Food Matters, which I found very interesting and inspired me to start changing. Check out my first post for the beginning of the story.
