Week Thirteen Roundup (a bit late)

Well, it’s Thursday and I’m posting information that I wrote down on Monday, and should have posted on Monday. Oops! Anyway, here they are. Monday’s numbers: waist size of 41 inches, (up 1/4 inch – yay easter candy, ham, beans, and also Chinese buffet). Money spent: $152.09, pretty much in line with how things have […]

Week Twelve Roundup

Wow, it’s been a whole week since I posted – must have been a busy week! Here are the numbers for this week: my waist is down to 40 3/4 inches, down 1/4 of an inch, and we spent $189.09 on groceries this week. This is three weeks in a row of declines in waist […]

Week Eleven Roundup

I’ve been at this for eleven weeks now, and am starting, I think, to get the hang of it. My waist size this morning came in at 41 inches – that’s 1/2 inch less than last week, and we spent $142.34 on groceries. As I mentioned before, I’m not sure that we’re saving money on […]

Week Ten Roundup

Good Morning! It’s time for the weekly checkin, and I things are going well. The waist measurement is 41 1/2 inches this morning, down 1/2 inch from last week, and we spent $112.58 on food, also reasonable. We’ve been working on varying our diet this week and have been pretty successful. We had a stir-fry […]

Week Nine Roundup

This week saw the beginning of some physical activity on my part, however, it doesn’t seem to have reduced my waist size, at least not yet. I took two ballet classes during the past week, and will take at least two classes per week for the next few months. However, this week my waist size […]

Week Eight Roundup

I’ve now been at this for two full months! I feel pretty good, but as I mentioned on Wednesday I haven’t exactly enjoyed a varied diet. Going into month three that is going to change. Now for the numbers: I am at 41″ even this week, down 1/2 inch from last week, and we spent […]

Week Seven Roundup

We spent the weekend visiting friends and family and I swear I ate more meat than I have in the past couple of weeks combined. Saturday brought an amazing maple salmon dinner, and Sunday brought sausage & eggs for breakfast, and the hugest chicken breast that I’ve ever seen for dinner. I might have to […]

Week Six Roundup

Ok, maybe my measurement last week was off. Hopefully it was. This week I measured in at 40 3/4 inches, which would be a 1 1/4 inch loss from last week, which seems kind of high. I’ll have to make some kind of a graph eventually with trend lines and stuff. On the cash side, […]

Week Five Roundup

So, this week I measured in at 42 inches – almost back to where I was when I started this whole thing. I’m not sure what happened, and I’m hoping that it’s simply a blip in the measurements. Maybe I was sucking my stomach in too much the last couple of weeks, or maybe I […]

Week Four Roundup

Four weeks in and I’m down to 40 3/4 inches. This brings the total loss to 1.58 inches in a month, not too shabby. How’s it going on the budget side? We’ll, we’re not too sure that we’re actually saving money. This past week we spent $142.37 on groceries, which seems high. We’re thinking that […]

  • What is Choices That Matter?

I'm a guy named John, and I do most of the writing around here. I went from a really active lifestyle to a really inactive lifestyle very quickly and my body is noticing. On top of that I'm worried about what's happening to our planet, so, I'm trying to do something about it.

For Christmas I received the book Food Matters, which I found very interesting and inspired me to start changing. Check out my first post for the beginning of the story.
